Baby News

It's been so long since I've posted over here. We are still alive and well in Dakar. Actually I'm on a long vacation in the US while I have baby #3! In October I relaunched my new website and branding over at Lemon and Lavender and I've been crazy busy since. You can take a peek here. I don't know how much I will post here but you can follow my Inside Africa posts over at L+L. xo.

Out of Africa

We embarked on our month long journey abroad with a few mishaps but as I sip my champagne in my first class upgrade due to delayed and missed flights, I can't help but believe this month is going to be fabulous. It's so strange leaving Africa, which after almost 9 months feels like home. I got a strange sense of anxiety when we took off from Dakar. This bizarre feeling of wanting to stay in Africa where things felt normal and safe (strange I know) but going to Europe after being in Africa for almost a year felt overwhelming. I haven't made it out of an airport yet but when I do I will let you know if it was as scary and overwhelming as I imagined. It's just comforting watching goats graze on the side of the road while a horse drawn carriage cuts you off and almost makes you slam into a taxi! I mean I paid $10 for a horse and buggy to move a cabinet I bought. Way cheaper than renting a moving van. These are the reasons I love Africa. Simplicity. Here's to venturing into a month of clean streets and endless choices. Xo

Dakar is...

Many things but lately it's been wonderful. I'm ready for vacation but I just may miss Dakar and the people in it while we are away. I've been busy finalizing all our plans, clients, work, dog sitting, house sitting, etc. It's been raining like crazy some days and it's been a nice change (although not so nice for most people in Dakar who have leaky houses). I count my blessings we stay dry for the most part. My wonderful idea of moving my office next to a window almost cost me a new iMac earlier in the week when we had torrential rains for what seemed like the entire night. Apparently our window leaks or the wall leaks.. I'm not really sure.

I can't believe we have lived here 8 months. It truly has flown by and we are already planning where we will be going next. We say goodbye to several good friends over the next few weeks and I'm not looking forward to the tears. It's amazing how quickly one forms lasting friendships while living as expats. We all rely on eachother and there is this amazing sense of community and it seems as quickly as they enter your life they exit.

Yesterday we had a few friends over for burgers + beers. It was then while sitting at our large table, full of laughter and friends, that I realized how lucky we are here in Africa. I never would have thought while we packed our bags to move here that 8 months later I would be surrounded with some pretty fab people. It has made our transition so much smoother and really makes you forget about the little annoying things about Darkar; The bad internet, terrible shopping, malaria, bugs, dirt, sand, thousands of miles away from family...

Here's to lasting friendships...

Instalove #7 + Hillary Clinton

I like taking photos of drinks and random details :)  I also like pink pens, beer pong, pool days, banana trees growing in my backyard, and tea lights in mason jars.

I hate the smell in Dakar when it rains.  Friday it was so bad down by the fish boats I thought I was going to vomit. My stomach hasn't quite adapted to the random pungent odors of Dakar.

On a different and much more pleasant note, my favorite person in the world came to Dakar.  Ok, not my favorite person, but she is up there. This happenend. I shook hands with Hillary Clinton. O.M.G.

That was me (with the blonde hair and totally enamored waiting to get my hand shake:). I was so close to her! Her speech she gave was great and she is even more amazing in person. I'm loving her long hair; flawless low pony, chic blazer, pearls. She was rocking it! She moves through the room with such ease. It's pretty phenomenal to see in person.
